JUSAG President: Supreme Court’s success depends on judges and staff
The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has used celebrations marking the Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary to call for greater investment in the welfare and professional development of judicial employees.
Speaking at a grand durbar held to commemorate the milestone, JUSAG President Samuel Afotey Otu said the effectiveness of the country’s highest court depends not only on judges but also on the thousands of staff members who support judicial work behind the scenes.
According to him, court clerks, administrative officers, records personnel and other judicial workers play a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of justice across the country.
He noted that while the contributions of Supreme Court justices are often highlighted, the efforts of support staff are equally important to the functioning of the judiciary and deserve recognition.
Mr Otu urged authorities to prioritise investments that would strengthen the Judicial Service, including improved working conditions, enhanced staff welfare and the adoption of technology to modernise court operations.
He said building a more efficient justice system would require sustained investment in both infrastructure and human resources, stressing that a motivated workforce remains essential to maintaining public confidence in the courts.
The remarks were delivered during activities marking 150 years of the Supreme Court, where judicial officers, staff and invited guests reflected on the institution’s history and its role in Ghana’s democratic development.
