Stop speaking negatively about Ghana; believe in its future – Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to stop portraying the country in a negative light, warning that persistent pessimism could hinder national progress and undermine the sacrifices made by the nation’s founding leaders.
Speaking to worshippers at the Ringway Gospel Centre of the Assemblies of God Church on Sunday, August 2, President Mahama said Ghana’s development would depend not only on government policies but also on the attitudes, values and actions of its citizens.
He expressed concern over what he described as an increasing sense of hopelessness among some Ghanaians, with some believing that the country is incapable of achieving significant progress.
The President said Ghana’s forebears fought for independence because they believed in the country’s potential and envisioned a prosperous future.
He criticised suggestions that Ghana would have been better off remaining under colonial rule, describing such views as disrespectful to the sacrifices made by the country’s founding leaders.
According to him, such sentiments reflect a lack of confidence in Ghana and disregard the efforts of former leaders, including Kwame Nkrumah and his colleagues, who fought for independence and worked towards building a better nation.
President Mahama stressed that every citizen has a role to play in the development of Ghana by embracing values that strengthen society and serve the collective interest.
He called on Ghanaians to work diligently, uphold honesty and integrity, reject corruption and protect vulnerable members of society.
He further urged citizens to remain committed to serving the common good and maintain faith in Ghana’s ability to achieve sustainable development.
