Two killed, eight injured in collision on Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway
A road accident at Dompoase near Komenda in the Central Region has claimed the lives of two people and left eight others injured after a commercial vehicle crashed into a parked truck along the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway.
The crash occurred on Friday evening when a Toyota Hiace travelling from Accra towards Takoradi reportedly attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle that was overtaking. In the process, the driver lost control and slammed into a stationary truck by the roadside.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene found one victim dead, while another occupant remained trapped in the mangled vehicle. Rescue personnel later extricated the victim, who was subsequently pronounced dead.
Eight other passengers survived the crash and were rushed to the Elmina Polyclinic for medical attention. Three of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said personnel from the Komenda Fire Station responded immediately after receiving a distress call and carried out rescue operations at the scene.
Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Divisional Officer Grade II Abdul Wasiu Hudu, confirmed the incident and said firefighters worked to free trapped occupants from the wreckage.
The latest accident adds to growing concerns over road safety on major highways, where dangerous overtaking and collisions involving parked vehicles continue to contribute to fatalities.
The Fire Service has urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, avoid risky driving manoeuvres and exercise greater caution on the roads to help reduce accidents and save lives.
