Afoko dismisses polls, says October 3 vote will decide NPP race

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairperson hopeful Paul Afoko has dismissed opinion polls seeking to gauge support for candidates in the party’s upcoming chairmanship race, saying the real test will be the votes cast by delegates on October 3.

His comments follow a survey by Global InfoAnalytics which placed former NPP General Secretary John Boadu ahead of the other contenders.

The August 20, 2026 poll showed that 27% of NPP voters backed Mr Boadu, while former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko followed with 15%. Mr Afoko polled 10%.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a thanksgiving service for newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives at Gracefields Chapel in the Nhyiaeso Constituency, Mr Afoko said his interactions with delegates across the country had boosted his confidence in his campaign.

“I don’t believe in any polls. The only poll I believe in is the October 3 poll here in Kumasi,” he stated.

Mr Afoko said his message appeared to be resonating with delegates in the constituencies he had visited, but questioned the reliability of surveys that claim to accurately reflect voters’ intentions.

“All other polls are just speculation. And as they say, you can’t enter into a person’s mind and know whether they are telling you the truth or not,” he added.
