Finance Ministry: All 6,300 GES staff recruited without clearance have been paid

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) employees recruited in 2024 without the required financial clearance have been paid, rejecting claims that salary arrears remain outstanding.

According to the Ministry, the workers were recruited under the previous administration without the necessary financial clearance and were subsequently inherited by the current government in 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Ministry said steps were taken to regularise the appointments and ensure that the affected employees received their salaries.

It explained that Cabinet approval was obtained and the appropriate financial clearance issued, allowing the payments to be made in four tranches.

“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” the statement said.

The Ministry also dismissed claims that financial clearance requests submitted by the GES were still pending.

It stressed that there are currently no outstanding requests from the GES for financial clearance awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance.

The clarification follows concerns from the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES over alleged unpaid salaries and arrears.

The Ministry has, however, urged any employee who continues to face salary or arrears-related problems to contact the Ghana Education Service for assistance with the relevant payroll or administrative issues.
