The Deputy Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the Free Senior High School Secretariat, Michael Owusu Baafi, has dismissed claims of bribery at the Placement Resolution Centre at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), stressing that parents and students are not required to pay any money to address issues related to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Mr Baafi advised parents and candidates to be wary of individuals who demand money while claiming they can secure school placements or resolve placement-related challenges on their behalf.
His warning follows allegations that some persons operating around the centre have been requesting payments from parents before assisting them with placement problems.
According to Mr Baafi, the entire placement resolution process is free, and officials at the centre do not charge parents for their services.
He clarified that while candidates may have to print placement forms and other documents at facilities outside the centre, such services are optional and should not be mistaken for official charges associated with resolving placement issues.
Mr Baafi said he had personally cautioned parents against paying people who demand money for assistance and had removed some individuals from the centre after they were found engaging in such activities.
He warned that parents who decide to pay such persons would do so at their own risk, reiterating that the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not charge fees for school placement.
He also revealed that officials at the centre often go beyond their normal duties to support students facing placement difficulties. Some staff, he said, use their own resources and available information to contact schools directly and explore placement opportunities for students whose cases require additional intervention.
In some instances, officials have also personally paid for the printing and submission of placement documents to schools to facilitate direct admission, without asking affected families for money.
“We don’t take money here. If you give any money to anybody, it’s at your own peril. We are admitting students for free,” Mr Baafi said.
