Asiama says he quit GoldBod Board months ago amid conflict-of-interest concerns
Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama has disclosed that he resigned from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) about five months ago, distancing himself from concerns over a possible conflict of interest.
His clarification follows questions raised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding his role at both the central bank and GoldBod, particularly in relation to the Bank of Ghana’s involvement in gold purchases.
Speaking during the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, Dr Asiama said he no longer attends GoldBod Board meetings.
“I resigned from the GoldBod Board about five months ago or so. I do not attend board meetings at the GoldBod at all,” he said.
He explained that the Ghana Gold Board Act allows the Bank of Ghana to be represented on the Board by the Governor or another senior official, meaning his personal presence is not required.
