Pope Leo reaffirms commitment to ending clergy abuse

Pope Leo has reiterated his commitment to tackling sexual abuse by Catholic priests during a meeting in Lourdes with seven survivors of abuse by French clergy, the Vatican said on Sunday.

According to a Vatican statement, the Pope thanked the survivors for sharing their painful experiences and reaffirmed his determination to prevent others from suffering similar harm in the future.

Pope Leo is currently on a four-day visit to France, travelling across three cities as local Catholic bishops hope the trip will help restore public confidence in the Church following the 2021 report that exposed widespread abuse of children by priests and caused widespread shock across the country.
