No ‘Bawumia candidates’ in NPP executive race – Anthony Karbo
The Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Organisation Committee, Anthony Karbo, has dismissed claims that the party’s upcoming national executive elections are being used to elect candidates aligned with its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Karbo said the issue of who will lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections has already been settled, following Dr Bawumia’s selection as the party’s flagbearer.
Speaking to Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections in Kumasi, he said the focus should now be on electing capable officers who can effectively organise the party and support its preparations for the 2028 elections.
Asked whether there were candidates in the race considered to be “Bawumia candidates,” Mr Karbo said there were none.
He explained that delegates would be going to Kumasi to elect national officers based on their ability to contribute to the party’s 2028 campaign, rather than on their perceived association with the flagbearer.
Mr Karbo urged delegates to consider the competence and capacity of aspirants contesting positions such as National Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser.
He maintained that candidates should not depend on their closeness to Dr Bawumia to win support from delegates, stressing that the priority should be electing effective party officers capable of helping to achieve the NPP’s 2028 objectives.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its national executive elections on October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, with candidates contesting nine national officer positions.
