The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with assistance from the Air Force Base Fire Department, has brought under control a fire at a warehouse owned by Somoco Company Limited, a tricycle assembly firm near the Takoradi Air Force Base, as well as a separate bushfire near Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
The two incidents occurred in Takoradi on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with firefighters preventing both fires from spreading to nearby buildings and vegetation.
The warehouse fire was reported at 10:37 a.m. and destroyed 10 tricycles. However, firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station and the Air Force Base Fire Department worked together to save more than 2,000 tricycles and protect neighbouring buildings and a nearby mall.
The fire was brought under control at 11:11 a.m. and completely extinguished by 11:20 a.m. No casualties were reported.

The GNFS said investigations had begun to establish the cause of the warehouse fire.
Later that morning, firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station responded to a bushfire near TTU after receiving a distress call at 11:55 a.m.
The six-member team, led by ADO I Kenneth Agbavor, contained the fire at 12:07 p.m. and extinguished it completely at 12:15 p.m.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire may have started when uncontrolled refuse burning spread to dry weeds. The firefighters’ swift intervention prevented it from extending to nearby vegetation and buildings. No casualties were recorded.
The Western Regional Fire Commander, ACFO I Cecil B. R. Addo, and the Sekondi Metro Fire Officer, DO II Michael Tetteh, were among the officers who attended the warehouse fire scene. The Regional Commander also visited the location of the bushfire.
He warned residents against indiscriminate burning, noting that uncontrolled bushfires are prohibited under the Control and Prevention of Bushfires Law, 1990 (P.N.D.C.L. 229).

The GNFS has called on businesses and warehouse operators to improve their fire safety measures, secure the required fire safety certification and ensure that goods are stored safely.
Residents have also been urged to dispose of waste properly and refrain from burning refuse near dry vegetation and fuel installations to prevent fires and safeguard lives, property and the environment.
