The Ghana Publishing Company Limited has launched a gazette verification platform and an electronic bookshop to combat the circulation of counterfeit gazettes and the unauthorised printing and sale of copies of the Acts of Ghana.
The initiative seeks to improve public access to authentic government publications while providing a digital platform for verifying the legitimacy of gazette documents.
Speaking at a press conference, the company’s Managing Director, Nana Kwasi Boatey, called for an end to the illegal reproduction and sale of Ghana’s laws, as well as the circulation of fake gazettes.
He explained that the unauthorised printing and sale of the Acts of Ghana constituted a criminal offence, stressing that the Ghana Publishing Company was the only institution legally mandated to undertake the publication and sale of the documents.
Boatey warned that individuals found engaging in the practice would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
He noted that the company had significantly reduced the circulation of fake gazettes through the introduction of enhanced security features, adding that several arrests had been made and some cases were currently before the courts.
According to him, the newly launched digital platforms would enable users to verify the authenticity of gazettes before using them for official purposes, while the e-bookshop would make the company’s publications more accessible to the public.
He explained that customers seeking physical copies of the Acts of Ghana, the Constitution and other publications could order and pay for them through the company’s website. The company would then package and courier the requested documents to customers at their preferred locations.
Boatey said the initiative was part of efforts to make the company’s services more accessible to Ghanaians and improve the customer experience.
The Ghana Publishing Company has urged the public to purchase official publications through authorised channels and use the verification platform whenever the authenticity of a gazette is in doubt.
