The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, Ibrahim Saani, for allegedly possessing 37 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at New York, near Airport Junction.
The arrest took place at about 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during an intelligence-led police operation in the area.
Police said officers retrieved a bag containing 37 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp, together with a crusher. Saani was subsequently taken to the police station with the items to assist with further investigations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have been involved in distributing suspected narcotic substances in New York and neighbouring communities.
The Command also disclosed that intelligence gathered suggested Saani allegedly pretended to be mentally unstable to conceal his suspected illegal activities.

The seized substances will be sent for forensic analysis to determine their exact nature and help investigators establish whether other individuals were involved.
Police said the suspect and any accomplices identified during the investigation would be put before court after the process is completed.
The Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against engaging in drug-related offences and urged anyone with credible information about the possession, distribution or trafficking of illicit substances to report to the nearest police station.
It further appealed for continued public cooperation in tackling narcotics-related crimes and safeguarding communities, particularly young people.
