The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is working with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to secure employment for 272 graduates with disabilities as part of efforts to improve job opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The initiative is expected to help implement the government’s proposed five per cent employment quota for persons with disabilities in both public and private institutions.
Announcing the development on behalf of the Vice President at the Day of Help for Persons with Disabilities in the Eastern Region, Policy Advisor to the Vice President, Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the partnership was intended to turn the employment policy into practical opportunities.
He emphasised that the effectiveness of the measures would depend on proper implementation, stressing that policies must bring meaningful improvements to the lives of those they are designed to benefit.
“The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is working with the Ghana Education Service to facilitate the employment of 272 graduates with disabilities. These measures are important, but their real value will depend on how they are implemented, as a policy is only as good as the difference it makes in people’s lives,” he said.
Dr Ofosu Ampofo added that the government must ensure the initiative creates genuine employment opportunities, career prospects and sustainable livelihoods for persons with disabilities.
