The Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, the principal suspect in the killing of two people at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra. He was picked up from a hideout at Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
His arrest follows a manhunt after the shooting of 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atuguba, at their residence on Friday, October 30, 2026.
Preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have been triggered by a financial dispute over an alleged GH¢500,000 loan. Police say George Atuguba borrowed the money from Christopher but failed to repay it.
On the morning of the incident, Christopher reportedly went to the victims’ residence with 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which he shot George and Irene Atuguba.
The victims were rushed to hospital but were pronounced dead by a medical officer. Their bodies were deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Christopher’s arrest came after police earlier detained Beatrice Mumuni, who is suspected of leading him to the victims’ home before the murders.
Police had declared Christopher wanted and offered a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.
In a statement on X, the Police said: “The key suspect in the Sakumono murder case, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, who was on the run, has been arrested from his hideout. Full details will be communicated.”
The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading the investigation, with support from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
Police have not yet disclosed whether the reward will be paid or when the suspects will be arraigned. Both are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
The arrest brings both key suspects into custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the double murder.
