The Electoral Commission has addressed the press as counting goes on at various polling stations. The EC commended polling agents and EC officials for the progress they have made so far as Ghana votes today.
Samuel Tettey, deputy chair of the EC revealed that it is still too early for the EC to give an account of voter turnout across the country. He also revealed that 95% of polling stations nationwide closed at exactly 5pm with only 5% of polling stations still opened for some reasons.
In addressing the power outage at Ayawaso North amidst the counting of ballots, the EC revealed that, the commission was working with ECG to restore power but money had been given to EC officials at the center to hire generators as backup.
Samuel Tettey also added that the only place where violence had resulted in the death of one person was UDS, Nyankpala. The EC ended by saying all accounts of irregularities would be made known in due time and urged all Ghanaians to stay calm.
