Technical issues with the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) at several polling stations in the Sege Constituency of the Greater Accra Region have forced Electoral Commission officials to resort to facial verification of voters.
At the Goi Pentecost Center 2B, for example, over 14 persons were verified facially, after repeated attempts to capture their fingerprints proved futile.
These technical failures of the BVDs have led to notable delays in the voting process as voters waited patiently in line to cast their ballots.
Polling officials have however indicated that measures are being put in place to ensure the process continues smoothly to avoid any further delays and disruptions.
While some polling centers face technical challenges with BVDs, other centers are confronted with allegations of missing names and other verification issues, which brought the voting process to a temporary halt at one of the polling centers.
For example, at the Old Library polling station in the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, there have been reports of confusions erupting as a result of alleged missing names from the voter register.
Similar issues have been reported in the Ablekuma Central Constituency.
This has raised concerns about the accuracy of the voter register, which was expected to undergo a thorough verification prior to the elections.
In other areas such as Tamale Central and Wulensi, technical issues with BVDs were said to have forced EC officials to halt the voting process temporarily.
These delays have sparked series of tensions among the affected voters, with some fearing disenfranchisement.
Polling station officials have however urged voters to remain calm and assured that efforts are underway to address all issues promptly.
