The streets of Sunyani were filled with party colours on Wednesday as supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a large-scale “Yensuro Ahunahuna” (We Are Not Intimidated) protest.
Dressed in black, red, white, and blue, demonstrators marched through major streets, chanting the slogan “Yensuro Ahunahuna” to express their resistance and determination in the face of what they describe as political intimidation.
The protest attracted hundreds of party members and forms part of rising discontent within sections of the NPP, with supporters calling for fairness, transparency, and respect for internal party processes.
According to Adom News reporter Christian Ofori Kumah, the demonstration remained peaceful, although participants were firm in their stance, vowing to continue pressing their demands until they are addressed.
Protesters displayed placards with strong messages and sang party songs, creating an atmosphere marked by both unity and protest. Some participants said the march was intended to show that they would not be silenced or pushed aside.
The demonstration comes in response to what the NPP describes as increasing intimidation and restrictions on free speech.
It follows the arrest of Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, over allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and circulating statements considered likely to incite fear and panic.
Although he has since been granted bail of GH¢30,000 with two sureties, party officials argue that the situation raises serious concerns about freedom of expression and democratic governance.
