Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has declared that candidates whose election after the controversial re-collation was annulled by the Supreme Court were ineligible to be sworn in on January 6, 2025.
The Supreme Court nullified the declarations made by the EC folowing re-collation of parliamentary results in four constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Tema Central and Ablekuma North.
This followed an application by the NDC challenging a High Court decision that ordered the re-collation.
According to the Speaker, the Supreme Court Ruling emphasised a position he had taken even before the ruling:
“The decision of the Supreme Court just followed the position I took before they even delivered their decision. To become a member of parliament, you have to be elected by the voter, and you have to be declared by the Electoral Commission,” he stated.
