In his final New Year’s address as President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reflected on the achievements and challenges faced by Ghana over the past eight years, urging the nation to continue embracing hope, unity, and resilience as it steps into 2025.
Speaking to Ghanaians from all walks of life, President Akufo-Addo expressed his deep gratitude for the trust placed in him throughout his presidency. He acknowledged the journey of transformation that the country had embarked on together, one that had brought significant progress in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the economy.
“Serving you has been the greatest honor of my life. I stand before you not just as a leader, but as a fellow Ghanaian,” the President said, emphasizing the collective effort that has defined the country’s progress. “Together, we have worked tirelessly to lay a foundation for a Ghana that is strong, united, and free.”
Highlighting key achievements during his tenure, President Akufo-Addo pointed to the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has provided access to secondary education for millions of young Ghanaians. He also noted the strengthening of the country’s healthcare system, the expansion of road networks, and the revitalization of the agricultural sector. The President also took pride in Ghana’s economic recovery, citing a remarkable 7.2% growth in the third quarter of 2024 and a projected 6.8% growth for the year.
“These achievements are not just numbers or statistics; they are stories of lives changed and futures made brighter,” President Akufo-Addo stated, reinforcing the impact of these developments on ordinary Ghanaians.
However, the President did not shy away from acknowledging the challenges the country has faced, particularly the economic strain brought on by the post-COVID-19 period. Despite these hurdles, he expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to overcome adversity, attributing the nation’s resilience to the unwavering spirit of the Ghanaian people.
“The post-COVID-19 years have tested us to our limit, but they’ve also reminded us of who we are—a people who rise together, no matter the odds,” he said.
As he prepares to hand over the mantle of leadership to the incoming administration, President Akufo-Addo encouraged Ghanaians to continue striving for greatness, stressing that the future is bright for the nation. He called on the youth to take charge of their future with courage and ambition, while also acknowledging the vital contributions of farmers, teachers, health workers, traders, and public servants who form the backbone of the nation.
“Let us embrace the opportunities that lie before us, driven by the belief that our best days are still ahead,” the President urged.
Reflecting on the peaceful election that ushered in new leadership, President Akufo-Addo commended the country for reaffirming its status as a beacon of democracy. He called for unity and peace, urging Ghanaians to never again resort to violence in the pursuit of power.
As Ghana enters 2025, the President’s message was clear: the road ahead will require continued commitment to progress, but with unity and determination, the nation will reach new heights.
“May 2025 bring our families joy, peace, and abundant blessings. May our homes be filled with laughter, our communities with unity, and our nation with prosperity,” President Akufo-Addo concluded, wishing Ghanaians a prosperous New Year.
