Congratulations to the 20 Virgins
The Wenchi West District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church, under the Mid-West Ghana Conference in the Bono Region, honored 20 girls aged between 13 and 16 for preserving their virginity.
The recognition, which took place during a thanksgiving service marking the first Sabbath of the year at Wenchi, saw the girls receive undisclosed sums of money as tokens of encouragement.
Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, commended the girls for their commitment to upholding their virtues.
“God has made you beautifully unique,” she told the girls, urging them to protect their purity until marriage. She encouraged them to make wise choices, particularly regarding the friends they associate with in the coming year.
Mrs. Poku stressed the importance of revisiting traditional practices like puberty rites, which historically helped protect young girls from promiscuity.
“Customs such as Bragoro and Dipo were essential in preserving girls’ virginity and preventing teenage pregnancies, which hinder the growth and development of young women,” she added.
Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District, also praised the girls, describing them as shining examples for others to emulate. He encouraged all young girls in the church to remain pure and focus on their education.
“Your dedication to both your spiritual and academic growth will shape you into responsible adults,” he said.
Some of the honored girls expressed joy and gratitude to the church for recognizing their efforts. They appreciated the church’s support in guiding them spiritually and morally, pledging to uphold the values instilled in them.
