FIFA releases top World Cup goalscorers for 81 nations

FIFA has released a list of the highest-scoring players for every country that has found the net in the history of the FIFA World Cup, highlighting the leading goalscorers for all 81 scoring nations.

According to the list, 81 countries have scored at least once at the World Cup, while China PR, Indonesia and Trinidad and Tobago remain the only teams to have appeared at the tournament without registering a goal.

Although all three nations have competed at the World Cup, none has managed to score in the competition.

The list, published on Friday under the title “Every Nation’s Top World Cup Goalscorer”, features Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa as the country’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with four goals.

France’s Kylian Mbappé tops the overall rankings with 22 World Cup goals, followed by Argentina’s Lionel Messi with 21 and Germany’s Miroslav Klose with 16.

Brazil legend Ronaldo sits fourth with 15 goals, while Hungary’s Sandor Kocsis has 11. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has also scored 11 goals, with Peru’s Teófilo Cubillas next on 10.

Italy’s Roberto Baggio, Paolo Rossi and Christian Vieri each have nine World Cup goals, matching Spain’s David Villa.

Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku and Uruguay’s Óscar Míguez round out the group of players with at least eight goals.

Among African nations, Ghana’s all-time World Cup top scorer is Asamoah Gyan with six goals, Cameroon is led by Roger Milla with five, Senegal by Ismaïla Sarr with five, while Mohamed Salah leads Egypt with three goals.

Other notable national record holders include England’s Harry Kane (14), Croatia’s Ivan Perišić (7), Czechia’s Oldřich Nejedlý (7), the Netherlands’ Johnny Rep (7), Norway’s Erling Haaland (7), Poland’s Grzegorz Lato (10), Russia’s Oleg Salenko (6), Colombia’s James Rodríguez (6), Ecuador’s Enner Valencia (6), Switzerland’s Sepp Hügi (6) and the United States’ Landon Donovan (5).
