Two men accused of stealing gold ore have been granted bail of GH¢100,000 each with two sureties by the Nkawie Circuit Court.
The accused, Robert Mensah, 26, and Paul Udeze, 27, who are friends, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, the complainant, Jonas Alban, is the Security Supervisor at Asanko Gold Mining Limited in Esaase, located in the Amansie West District.
He told the court that at about midnight on June 15, the complainant and other security personnel allegedly spotted the two men carrying eight sacks containing gold ore from the mining site. The value of the ore had not yet been determined.
The prosecution said the security team intercepted the suspects, arrested them and handed them over to the Ahwerewa Police for further action.
Chief Inspector Gyan added that during police investigations, both accused admitted to the offences in their caution statements. They were subsequently charged and brought before the court.
