GMTF, KGL launch major diagnostic centre project at Ridge Hospital
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), in collaboration with KGL Group and the KGL Foundation, has begun work on a major healthcare infrastructure project aimed at expanding diagnostic services at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).
The initiative, which exceeds the Trust Fund’s original request for assistance, involves the construction of a modern diagnostic centre fitted with some of the latest medical imaging technology.
The facility will bring together an MRI scanner, CT scanner, mammography unit, X-ray machine and fluoroscopy equipment in one location, making advanced diagnostic services more accessible to thousands of patients.
The project stems from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s appeal to Corporate Ghana on February 5 for support in upgrading Ridge Hospital with modern diagnostic equipment. In response, KGL Group and the KGL Foundation pledged to finance the construction of a new diagnostic centre, marking one of the largest private-sector contributions to Ghana’s healthcare sector.
The implementation phase officially began after the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Chief Executive Officer of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, led a joint site inspection at Ridge Hospital on Thursday, July 23.
When completed, the centre is expected to improve the hospital’s capacity to detect and manage complex health conditions by providing quicker and more accurate diagnostic services. It is also expected to reduce long waiting times and minimise the need for patients to seek advanced imaging services elsewhere.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund described the collaboration as a strong example of how partnerships between the public and private sectors can improve healthcare delivery.
The Fund also commended KGL Group for its exceptional contribution, noting that the company’s commitment went well beyond the initial request for diagnostic equipment.
According to the Trust Fund, the partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to improving access to quality healthcare while highlighting the important role Corporate Ghana can play in advancing the country’s healthcare transformation agenda.
Once operational, the diagnostic centre is expected to serve as a key referral facility for advanced medical imaging, enhancing patient care and strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.
