President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). This appointment, effective January 17, 2025, was communicated through a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
The letter states: “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L. 64), has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation pending receipt of the required advice of the Honourable Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”
Edward Bawa, a former Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His background includes significant contributions to Ghana’s energy sector, and his leadership is anticipated to steer GNPC towards achieving its strategic objectives.
The GNPC, established in 1983 under the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Law (P.N.D.C.L. 64), plays a pivotal role in the exploration, development, and sustainable utilization of Ghana’s petroleum resources. Bawa’s appointment is expected to bolster the corporation’s efforts in enhancing the nation’s energy security and economic development.
