A deadly incident occurred on April 8, 2025, when the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed during a live merengue concert. At least 98 people lost their lives, and 160 others were injured in the disaster.
The nightclub was hosting a performance by renowned merengue singer Rubby Pérez when the roof gave way. Among the deceased were former Major League Baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, and Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province. Pérez, who was trapped under the rubble, was later found alive but died from his injuries.

Emergency teams worked quickly, making over 150 ambulance trips to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse and are promising full cooperation with the ongoing inquiry.
In response to the loss, President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader declared three days of national mourning to honor the victims. The nation is still in shock over the loss of public figures and citizens.
