Mahama orders audit of National Cathedral project
President John Dramani Mahama has placed the controversial National Cathedral project at the centre of his anti-corruption efforts, announcing an independent audit into the initiative commissioned by the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
In a national address on Wednesday, 7th May, to mark his first 120 days in office, President Mahama revealed that international audit firm Deloitte & Touche has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the project.
“The war against corruption continues unabated. Deloitte and Touche is conducting an independent audit of the National Cathedral project. I expect their report by the end of this month [May],” he stated.
The President emphasised that the audit is part of a broader strategy to restore public trust and ensure accountability in the management of public funds. He also noted that investigations are ongoing into other major government projects, including the hosting of the 13th African Games.
“A number of officials have been invited and questioned concerning the 13th Africa Games,” he confirmed.
These efforts, President Mahama affirmed, reflect his administration’s commitment to transparency and the rule of law. key pillars he promised to uphold during his campaign.
