The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has recapitulated its call for a review of the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
At the 43rd commemoration of Martyrs’ Day, President of the GBA, Effua Ghartey, cautioned that the suspension could set a dangerous precedent for the country’s judiciary.
She called for a reconsideration of the decision and stressed that the independence and integrity of Ghana’s judicial system had to be protected.
“In the spirit of reconciliation, all the various calls made for a reconsideration of the suspension of the Chief Justice in the circumstances, as it sets a poor precedent, will not go unheeded. We yearn for peace and strive for peace,” she stated.
Martyrs’ Day honours the memory of three High Court judges, Justices Frederick Opoku Sarkodie, Cecilia Koranteng-Addow, and Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, who were abducted and murdered on June 30, 1982.
