Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says government has cleared all outstanding payments owed to the National Health Insurance Scheme, totaling GH¢603 million as of December 2024.
He made this known on Friday, July 18, during the Government Accountability Series. According to him, this signals a major step in efforts to improve healthcare financing and shows that the government is serious about supporting the health sector.
“This milestone demonstrates our commitment and the government’s dedication to timely payment and fulfilling our obligation in healthcare financing,” he said.
According to Citinewsroom, Mr. Akandoh added that no administration has been more consistent in releasing funds from the consolidated fund to the National Health Insurance Fund.
“Let me put on record that in the history of NHIA, no government has paid or released money from the consolidated funds to the National Health Insurance Fund more promptly than this government. We are doing it on a monthly basis,” he stated.
He also noted that in just the first half of 2025, the NHIA released over GH¢1.38 billion to healthcare providers, showing clear signs of a more efficient system.
