West Ham United have begun negotiations with Scott Parker to take charge of the club following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo, as the London side seeks to revive its promotion campaign.
BBC Sport reports that talks with the former Burnley, Bournemouth and Fulham manager are advanced, with an appointment potentially coming before Wednesday’s Championship fixture against Cardiff City.
Nuno’s departure follows a disappointing run that has seen West Ham fall to eighth in the standings, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough. The Hammers have managed just two victories in their last six league matches and suffered consecutive home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
The Portuguese coach, 52, also oversaw the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season. His departure has been accompanied by the exits of assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa.
West Ham have appointed former players Mark Noble and Steve Potts, alongside Gerard Prenderville, to oversee the team temporarily against Cardiff.
Parker is familiar with the club, having made 129 appearances during a four-year spell as a player. He also brings considerable experience of securing promotion from the Championship, having achieved the feat with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley.
His potential appointment comes amid growing pressure on West Ham to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, particularly following the financial implications of relegation.
The club has reportedly generated about £150 million from player sales since dropping out of the top flight, while spending heavily on new additions, including a reported £22 million move for midfielder Arne Engels.
West Ham are now seeking their fourth permanent manager since David Moyes left in May 2024, following the departures of Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter and Nuno.
Parker’s immediate task, should he complete the move, will be to restore consistency and get the Hammers back into contention for automatic promotion.
