The Chief Priest of La, Nii Kpa Yemo VII, has strongly condemned the government over the recent demolition of a warehouse belonging to businessman Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, describing the act as unjust and politically motivated.
According to him, power is temporary and will inevitably change hands. He warned that the destruction of property today could easily result in similar actions tomorrow when a different party assumes office.
“It is not good to pay evil with evil,” he said. “You don’t say because Akufo-Addo did something while in power, now it’s our turn to do the same. Do you think NDC will stay in power till thy kingdom come?”
Speaking to JoyNews at the demolition site, Nii Kpa Yemo VII cautioned against what he called a growing trend of political revenge, where successive governments retaliate for actions taken by their predecessors.
“If you destroy someone’s property today, tomorrow they will also destroy yours. This is not the path we should be taking as a country,” the Chief Priest added.
Nii Kpa Yemo VII also praised McDan for his contributions to youth employment in the La community and across Ghana, noting that the businessman had provided countless job opportunities even without holding political office.
“McDan has created jobs for many of our youth even though he is not an MP or a minister, but his impact is beyond imagination”
Footage from the scene showed the Chief Priest performing traditional rites on the land, a symbolic act of protest and spiritual concern over an act of injustice against a respected son of La.
