Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has been released from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) after meeting revised bail conditions. His release follows earlier detention over his inability to meet the initial bail terms, reportedly due to a lack of landed property in Ghana.
The OSP confirmed in a statement on Friday, August 1, that the new bail conditions, secured by the Jospong Group of Companies acting as surety, meet the objectives of the original terms. However, the OSP noted that Mr. Adom-Otchere has been recalled to complete further administrative procedures, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mr. Adom-Otchere is under investigation in connection with a revenue assurance contract awarded by GACL to a private firm, Evatex Logistics Limited. The contract, according to reports, was allegedly signed without the full approval of the GACL Board.
While media reports initially indicated charges had been filed, a member of Adom-Otchere’s legal team has clarified that no formal charges have been brought against him.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, lawyer Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei explained that his client has only been cautioned—not charged—and is currently cooperating with the OSP’s ongoing probe into suspected offences.
In a related development, the GACL has officially terminated the controversial contract with Evatex Logistics Limited. The termination was confirmed in a letter dated July 28, 2025, and addressed to the company. The contract, signed on December 4, 2024, is scheduled to end on August 27, 2025.
According to GACL Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, no evidence of revenue concealment was discovered during Evatex’s operations at the cargo section of the Kotoka International Airport. As such, GACL has made no payments to the firm since the contract’s inception.
