A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held on Thursday, August 7, at Jubilee House to honour the eight victims of the tragic military helicopter crash that has plunged the nation into mourning.
The ceremony, which formed part of the official three-day period of national mourning, took place at the Ceremonial Garden of the Presidency. It brought together grieving families, top government officials, military personnel, and members of the public in a unified moment of remembrance and reflection.
The nation paid tribute to the lives and service of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former parliamentary candidate Mr Samuel Aboagye.
Also honoured were three officers of the Ghana Armed Forces who perished in the line of duty: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
As wreaths were laid, a profound silence enveloped the gathering, symbolising the collective grief and reverence of a nation mourning its heroes.
The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifice and dedication of the departed, whose commitment to national service remains etched in Ghana’s memory.
The three-day mourning period will conclude on Saturday, August 9, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” to be held at the Forecourt of the State House.
