A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Dr. Ekua Amoako, has expressed concern that the declared three-day national mourning period for the victims of the recent military helicopter crash is insufficient to honour their memory.
According to her, this is not an ordinary tragedy, these were gallant men who served their country with distinction. Three days is simply not enough to mourn their passing and reflect on their contribution to Ghana, she said.
Speaking on GHone TV, she said, “Three days isn’t enough to mourn the death of the departed souls”
Her comment comes in the wake of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of eight high-profile individuals, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the NDC’s National Vice Chairman, the Deputy CEO of NADMO, Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel, Dr. Amoako described the event as a profound national loss that requires a more extended period of reflection.
The helicopter crash, which occurred earlier this week, has plunged the nation into grief, prompting calls from various quarters for a united national response and a stronger resolve to tackle illegal mining, an issue the officials were reportedly addressing before their untimely deaths.
