The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two officers of the Ghana Police Service for their exceptional bravery in rescuing two robbery victims and arresting seven suspects during an operation spanning the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.
Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka of the Anyaa District Police Command has been recommended for enrolment in the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, a step that will see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps upon successful completion. Her colleague, Constable Joseph Akondoh, also from the same command, has been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
According to a statement from the Police Service, the commendations stem from an operation carried out in the early hours of August 7, 2025, at Ablekuma Borkorborkor. The two officers, supported by four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), intercepted a green pickup truck during a snap check around 12:30 a.m.
Two men suddenly jumped from the open bucket of the vehicle, pleading for help. They told the officers they had been attacked the previous night during a robbery in which their 5,400-litre fuel tanker was seized near Nsawam.
The officers quickly moved to rescue the victims and arrested one suspect on the spot. Subsequent intelligence-led operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six more suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker along with other exhibits.
On August 8, 2025, the IGP and the Police Management Board hosted a ceremony at the Police Headquarters to honour the two officers and the CPAs for their vigilance, dedication, and professionalism. Mr Yohuno urged all personnel to emulate their example and reiterated the Police Administration’s commitment to recognising and rewarding outstanding service.
