Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for questioning related to an ongoing tax investigation, his management has confirmed.
The inquiry specifically concerns the tax obligations of a high-value asset, identified in a statement from his management as a yellow Lamborghini vehicle.
According to Shatta Wale’s Public Relations Officer, Sammy Flex, the artist voluntarily presented himself at the EOCO offices in Accra alongside his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo on Wednesday, August 20, to assist with the investigation.
“Shatta Wale’s legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter,” the post on Facebook read, assuring that they are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity.

The management further urged calm and advised against speculation, expressing “utmost confidence in the judicial process” and confirmed that both the management and legal representatives are set to return to the EOCO offices on Thursday, August 21, to continue discussions with officials.
Earlier this month, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), in partnership with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), confiscated the luxury vehicle, as part of a broader international investigation, with authorities claiming that the car was stolen and linked to the proceeds of a significant fraud scheme.
Shatta Wale is no stranger to controversy in the entertainment industry but has largely avoided serious legal entanglements of this nature.
Management of the ‘Dancehall King’ has promised to provide further updates as the situation develops.
