National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team Member, Hamza Suhuyini, has taken on NPP communicator Ernest Addo over claims that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration’s infrastructure record is unprecedented.
According to him, it was unfair to compare what he described as the incompetent regime of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia to the legacy of John Dramani Mahama. He said the NPP government unethically sank over $70 million into the cathedral project, demolished homes and judges’ bungalows, only to leave behind an empty pit, which in his view reflects their true record.
“Are you kidding me? You are comparing this incompetent regime with the legacy of John Dramani Mahama? This is a government that unethically sank over $70 million into a cathedral project, demolished homes and judges’ bungalows, only to dig a pit in the ground. That is your record,” he fired.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, 26 August, 2025, Suhuyini insisted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government left behind a stinking record of corruption, debt mismanagement, and abandoned project
He cited key projects under the Mahama administration including the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the Ridge Hospital expansion, the Bank of Ghana Hospital, and over 126 CHPS compounds as examples of tangible investments that continue to serve Ghanaians.
He also pointed to the Circle Interchange, often referenced as evidence of Mahama’s infrastructure king status, stressing that the NDC’s record is clear and defensible.
On the energy sector, Suhuyini noted that the NDC administration not only invested in generation capacity but also established ESLA to manage debts, while the NPP government presided over a debt overhang and implemented a domestic debt exchange program that, in his view, damaged Ghana’s international credibility.
“You subjected this country to the domestic debt exchange program and told external creditors in the face that we cannot pay our debts. For eight years, you destroyed the integrity of this country,” he said.
Suhuyini maintained that Mahama’s current international engagements are aimed at restoring Ghana’s credibility and attracting responsible partnerships, not “cap-in-hand begging,” as suggested by the NPP communicator.
He concluded by warning Ernest Addo not to tout the NPP’s infrastructure record again.
“When it comes to infrastructure, never say it anywhere again, Ernest, because the NPP would be found bankrupt. Your record is not to build, but to destroy existing infrastructure,” he stressed.
