The Public Relations Officer for Nurses at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Sarah Danquah, has alleged that Ralph Saint Williams slapped a pregnant senior nurse at the hospital during the August 17 incident at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
According to her, this alleged physical assault was on a nurse different from the rotation nurse in the initial footage, and was captured on camera but the investigative committee failed to invite them to present it.
During an appearance on GHOne TV’s Ghana Today on Thursday, August 28, Sarah Danquah claimed that earlier CCTV footages released by the hospital did not capture the whole incident, as additional footages in her possession capture Ralph slapping the said pregnant nurse in the face.
“When you look at the video very well, you will see that immediately he entered, there were two people, one in black and one gentleman trying to use the monitor on someone, he, [Ralph] went straight to the one in black who was a pregnant woman, and slapped her face,” she claimed.
When questioned on the source of the said new footage, as the public has only seen one, the Nurses PRO explained that there were two surveillance cameras at the triage which are used to unbiased and assessments in situations like the August 17 incident.
On why the alleged assault was not captured in the investigative committee’s report, Sarah Danquah explained that neither she nor anyone privy to the news footage was invited by the committee during the investigation.
“I was not called into the committee, the media has not gotten to me, nobody has asked me for a video, but I can show it to you…for the purpose of clarity, I will show it…the nurse was on duty with her colleagues, he [Ralph] comes in, Chantelle was attending to a patient with burns, and then you go to her…you think she doesn’t have a husband and a family?” she added.
Background
The alleged assault came to light after a viral video showed relatives of an accident victim confronting staff at Ridge Hospital’s emergency department.
Tracing the incidents that led to this confrontation, Ralph St. Williams shared that some staff at the hospital were only called out for their negligence, and has since maintained that at no point was there a physical assault on anyone.
On August 27, the probing committee established by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akando, presented its report on the incident, in which it highlighted that contrary to earlier claims, investigations conducted revealed that the nurse at the center of the assault allegations did not sustain any fractures or dislocations.
