Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has declared that the party is prepared to hand the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) a “heavy defeat” in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
His remarks come on the heels of a recent Global Info Analytics poll, which projected victory for the NDC’s candidate, Bernard Baidoo Bediako, with 53% of the vote, against the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu, who polled at 47%.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, August 29, 2025, Mr. Tanko Computer said the NDC’s intensive grassroots campaign in Akwatia is yielding positive results.
“We have been in the constituency, and we are everywhere working. I can assure you that we are going to win the election massively come Tuesday,” he stated confidently.
He further explained that the party was determined to consolidate the momentum highlighted by the poll.
“The projection shows that our efforts are paying off. With a few days left, we will intensify our presence in certain areas to ensure that the people fully appreciate the good works of the government and the president and so far, they are responding positively.”
Mr. Tanko Computer emphasized that the NDC would not relax its efforts:
“We are not surprised by the outcome of the polls, and we will build on that. We won’t leave any stone unturned. We will give the NPP a heavy defeat come Tuesday.”
The Akwatia by-election is slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, earlier this year.
