The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned teachers seeking promotion not to pay GH¢210 to individuals claiming they can facilitate or influence the process.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, October 21, the Service said it had received reports that some people were demanding the money from promotion applicants under the pretext of helping them secure approval.
GES stressed that the promotion process is fair, transparent and entirely free. It urged applicants to ignore any demand for payment and to refrain from dealing with people who claim they can influence the outcome.
“Applicants are, therefore, advised to ignore any demands and refrain from making payments to individuals who claim they can facilitate or influence the promotion process,” the Service said.
The GES directed teachers to rely only on official procedures and guidelines communicated by the Service. It also advised them to remain vigilant and avoid unofficial payment arrangements.
The warning comes amid heightened attention on teacher promotions, after the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department paid promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 GES teachers ahead of an agreed October 16 deadline.
