The High Court has scheduled November 5, 2026, to hear an application by the sixth accused person in the alleged GH¢261 million French cocaine bust case, Helena Akua Denkyi, seeking to have her name removed from the charge sheet.
The application, filed on September 30, 2026, was raised during court proceedings after defence counsel indicated that the Attorney-General’s Department had been served with a hearing notice but had not filed an affidavit opposing the request.
Counsel for Ms Denkyi said the application was initially expected to be heard on October 8, but the court did not sit. It was subsequently rescheduled for October 14. However, the presiding judge noted that the court was only being formally notified of the application during the latest proceedings.
The judge said the court needed sufficient time to review the application before considering it.
The case involves six accused persons: Francis Narh Amanor, Frank Adu Boahene, Togbe Agbeti, Andrews Tetteh Amponsah, Daniel Laryea and Helena Akua Denkyi. All six were present in court.
During the proceedings, the prosecution told the court it was working to file the outstanding disclosures required for the trial to continue and requested an adjournment.
Defence counsel welcomed the prosecution’s update, arguing that it suggested investigations had been completed, and consequently urged the court to grant bail to the accused persons.
The judge, however, directed the defence to formally move the bail application, explaining that the prosecution could not respond to a request that had not officially been presented before the court.
Defence counsel also appealed for a shorter adjournment of two weeks instead of one month.
The court subsequently fixed November 5, 2026, to hear Ms Denkyi’s application to have her name struck off the charge sheet. The prosecution is expected to file the outstanding disclosures to facilitate further proceedings in the case.
