Police arrest Alhaji Sofo Azorka over assault at Akwatia by-election

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested Alhaji Sofo Azorka in connection with an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.

A police statement issued on Friday, September 12, confirmed that Azorka was picked up in Tamale on Wednesday, September 10, as part of ongoing investigations. He was cautioned and later granted bail.

Azorka has been directed to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., where he is expected to be arraigned before court.

“The police assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, hence entreats all to remain calm as further development shall be communicated,” the statement concluded.
