For many residents of Ho, the announcement of a large-scale affordable housing project could mark the beginning of a new phase of development for the Volta Region.
The Tema Development Corporation (TDC Ghana Ltd) has secured 1,000 acres of land in the regional capital to construct housing units aimed at easing Ghana’s growing deficit, currently estimated at 1.8 million. It is the corporation’s first project outside the Greater Accra Region.
Beyond addressing housing needs, the project is expected to create jobs for artisans, contractors, and service providers, while stimulating business activity across the region. Observers say the move could also help reduce rural-urban migration by giving people more reasons to stay and work in the Volta Region.
During a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, TDC Managing Director Courage KM Nunekpeku described the Ho project as part of efforts to ensure equitable development nationwide. He stressed that the initiative would combine quality housing delivery with local economic empowerment.
Togbe Afede XIV welcomed the plan and urged residents to embrace the opportunities it would bring. “This project will create jobs and support livelihoods. It has the potential to change the economic outlook of Ho and the wider Volta Region,” he said.
The TDC delegation, which included senior government officials, also made donations to the Asogli Te Za Festival and the Asogli Educational Fund, signaling the corporation’s intention to embed itself within the community.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with TDC assuring that local expertise will play a central role in the rollout.
