The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised concerns over the integrity of Ghana’s justice system, accusing both the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, and the Judiciary of actions it says undermine public trust and compromise the rule of law.
According to the party, several notable instances have indicated that the Attorney General and the Judiciary are biased and could be colluding in their justice delivery.
In a press conference on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong criticized what he described as the government’s “shameful” neglect of due process, arguing that the A-G Dr. Ayine often turns to media platforms to declare individuals guilty before they have had their day in court.
“When a person is accused of a crime, the law requires that they be arraigned before a court and presumed innocent until proven guilty. But the Attorney General prefers to go to the media and pronounce an accused person guilty,” he argued.
He also pointed to the case of Kwesi Botchway Jnr., a young man who faced threats of contempt from a sitting judge for publicly discussing a case that was still pending. Kodua Frimpong questioned why similar consequences do not seem to apply to the Attorney General’s statements.
“We have a young gentleman, Kwesi Botchway Jnr., who made some statements, and a sitting judge threatened to cite him for contempt. However, Dr. Dominic Ayine makes prejudicial statements, yet our judges remain silent. Indeed, the Animal Farm is working under the administration of John Dramani Mahama,” he remarked.
The NPP General Secretary emphasized that the actions of the Attorney General and the perceived lack of action by the Judiciary have created an unbalanced environment, ultimately leading to a decline in public confidence in the country’s judicial processes.
