Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, head of the extended family of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, testified that he was informed the late musician married Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni.
During cross-examination in court, he stated that Odo Broni and some family members told him about the alleged marriage to Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, the musician’s birth name.
The supposed union between Priscilla Ofori, who has six children with Daddy Lumba, is being contested by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh. She is seeking a court declaration recognizing her as the musician’s only surviving wife and to prevent Priscilla Ofori from identifying as his spouse.
Serwaa Fosuh’s lawyer, William Kusi, asked Abusuapanin Owusu on Friday, November 21, 2025, whether he attended the 1991 marriage ceremony between Odo Broni and Daddy Lumba. He denied having done so.
Abusuapanin Owusu said he first met Odo Broni at the late musician’s residence after Daddy Lumba’s death in 2025. He added that he learned of the customary marriage at Tantra Hills in April 2010.
Upon receiving news of Lumba’s passing, he sent two nephews to the musician’s home to confirm the news. Priscilla Ofori, he said, refused to speak on the phone and was visibly emotional. Around this time, he had told some media outlets that he did not know Priscilla Ofori as Daddy Lumba’s wife, having always regarded Akosua Serwaa as his only spouse.
Under oath, Abusuapanin Owusu said he was surprised when Priscilla Ofori informed him that she had six children with the late musician and was customarily married to him. She introduced him to those who contracted the marriage and took the head drink.
He also noted that Daddy Lumba’s youngest sister, Faustina Fosuh, who is currently indisposed, confirmed the marriage between her late brother and Priscilla Ofori.
In accordance with custom, he presented Akosua Serwaa with drinks to officially inform her family of her husband’s passing, as she was also a wife. However, Abusuapanin Owusu said that his own family later informed him that Akosua Serwaa returned her head drinks (tsir nsa) to the family, indicating the dissolution of the marriage.
The matter is ongoing at the Kumasi High Court.
