The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected the High Court’s recent decision to nullify the parliamentary election results in Kpandai and order a full rerun. The party described the ruling as unjust and an unnecessary interference in the will of the voters.
According to the NPP, the original election was conducted fairly and transparently, and only isolated irregularities were reported in some polling stations. Party officials argue that these issues do not justify annulling the entire constituency result.
Following the ruling, the party announced it would appeal the decision and has filed for a stay of execution, insisting that their sitting MP, Matthew Nyindam, remains the legitimate representative of Kpandai.
In response to the court order, young NPP supporters staged protests in the constituency, expressing frustration over what they consider a “judicial overreach” and warning of potential unrest if the rerun proceeds.
As the appeals process unfolds, attention now turns to whether the court’s decision will be upheld or overturned, a verdict that could have significant political implications ahead of the next parliamentary cycle.
