Speaking at the handing-over ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the President handed over 40 newly acquired armoured vehicles to the Police Service. He stressed that the initiative forms part of a broader retooling programme aimed at equipping officers to confront crime directly and decisively.
President Mahama issued a stern warning to criminal groups, declaring that Ghana will never cede its streets or communities to armed robbers, gangs, or traffickers. “The state is prepared, the Police Service is prepared, and the laws of this Republic will deal firmly with anyone who threatens the safety of our people,” he said.
Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, expressed gratitude to the government for prioritising police welfare. He assured that the vehicles would be strategically deployed and properly maintained to maximize their impact. “These armoured vehicles will provide critical protection for our officers as they carry out their duty of safeguarding lives and property across the country,” he noted.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed and Defence Committee Chair James Algalga, alongside police leadership.
