The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dismissed as false reports suggesting that he is considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances for the safe return of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication, which first appeared in the Herald newspaper and was subsequently circulated by other media outlets, as a total fabrication.
The statement stressed that former President Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made, directly or indirectly, any request or representation to President Mahama or his agents regarding Mr. Ofori-Atta.
While acknowledging that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s situation is of concern to him, given both their family ties and Ofori-Atta’s role as Finance Minister during his administration, the former President emphasized that this concern does not extend to interfering with the rule of law.
The Office reaffirmed Nana Akufo-Addo’s commitment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law, adding that his fidelity to these values has never been in doubt. It further demanded that media outlets that carried the alleged report reproduce the rejoinder in line with the former President’s rights.
