The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals following a viral video that showed the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl in Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as 75-year-old Grace Mensah – the victim’s grandmother, and Godfred Osei Akoto, were taken into custody following preliminary investigations by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday, December 16, initial checks revealed that the incident occurred on December 6, 2025, after the victim reportedly went out and failed to return home.
The statement further indicated that during questioning, the second suspect, Godfred Osei Akoto claimed he had received authorization from the child’s grandmother to carry out the assault.
The 11-year-old victim has since been rescued while both suspects have been transferred to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit for further investigation.
Public Relations Officer for the Criminal Investigation Department, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, emphasized the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to protecting children and “dealing decisively with all forms of abuse.”
