Authorities have moved to tighten security in Nalerigu and nearby communities in the North East Region, introducing a dusk‑to‑dawn curfew alongside a series of restrictions aimed at restoring calm.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak, acting on the advice of the National Security Council, confirmed that movement will be restricted between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily beginning Thursday, December 18, 2025. The directive, issued by Executive Instrument, is part of broader efforts to prevent further unrest.
Residents have been cautioned against carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons, with officials warning that anyone found in violation will face arrest and prosecution. Beyond the curfew, the government has outlawed motorbike use, the wearing of smocks, the sale of fuel in containers, and any form of unlawful assembly.
In his statement, the Interior Minister appealed for calm, urging traditional leaders, youth groups, and opinion leaders to channel grievances through peaceful means. “Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non‑violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” Mr. Mohammed‑Mubarak said.
The measures underscore the seriousness with which national security agencies are responding to tensions in Nalerigu, combining strict enforcement with calls for dialogue to safeguard lives and property.
