The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has released the officially approved fee schedule for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, reassuring students that the Academic Facility User Fee will not be increased.
In a statement dated Monday, January 12, 2026, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission explained that the approval was meant to clarify the University’s proposed fees and address concerns raised by students and the public.
The statement indicated that the Academic Facility User Fee will remain at the same level as in the 2024/2025 academic year, ensuring students do not face additional financial pressure in the coming year. GTEC also detailed other approved levies, including SRC dues of GH¢50, an SRC Development Levy of GH¢150, and a GRASAG Development Levy of GH¢250.
All undergraduate students, including first-year students, will be required to pay a Telecel Broadband Levy of GH¢122. Additionally, GTEC approved a one-time 75th Anniversary Levy of GH¢100, which will apply only during the 2025/2026 academic year and will not continue afterward.
The Commission stressed the importance of properly informing students about their rights, including the possibility of opting out of certain levies where applicable. It noted that publishing the approved fees forms part of measures to enhance transparency, accountability, and compliance in the tertiary education sector.
“This announcement aims to address concerns regarding the University of Ghana’s 2025/2026 fee structure, and we expect the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure its smooth implementation,” the statement said.
GTEC’s action comes amid increased public attention on university fees and reflects its broader regulatory role in ensuring that any fee changes are fair, reasonable, and well justified.
